Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is a campy horror hostess character created and portrayed by actress Cassandra Peterson.

She first gained prominence hosting "Elvira's Movie Macabre," a syndicated television show that premiered September 26, 1981, on KHJ-TV in Los Angeles (WM6101). In this role, Elvira presented B-movies, interjecting with comedic commentary and double entendres.

Elvira's signature look includes a revealing black gothic dress, teased black hair, and heavy makeup. She quickly became a pop culture icon, known for her irreverent humor and horror-themed persona. Elvira's popularity has led to numerous television appearances and specials.
